Ultrathin Paper Microsupercapacitors for Electronic Skin Applications

Ultrathin devices are rapidly developing for skin-compatible medical applications and wearable electronics. Powering skin-interfaced electronics requires thin lightweight energy storage devices, where solution-processing enables scalable fabrication. To attain such a sequential deposition is employed to achieve all spray-coated symmetric microsupercapacitors (?SCs) on ultrathin parylene C substrates, both electrode gel electrolyte based the cheap abundant biopolymer, cellulose. The optimized spraying procedure allows an overall device thickness of ?11 µm be obtained with 40% active material volume fraction resulting volumetric capacitance 7 F cm?3. Long-term operation capability (90% retention after 104 cycles) mechanical robustness achieved (1000 cycles, 98%) under extreme bending (rolling) conditions. Finite element analysis utilized simulate stresses strains in real-sized ?SCs different Moreover, organic electrochromic display printed powered two serially connected ?-SCs as example wearable, skin-integrated, fully electronic application.
